  • Responsibilities

    • Support sales team in selling Red8 products and services by attending sales calls and providing technical presentations and competitive differentiation to support sales opportunities. Facilitate technical meetings with customer and partner engineering resources
    • Take a leadership role in designing technology solutions (products and services) that meet customer requirements; coordinate the input of other engineers (Red8, vendor, or even distributor subject matter experts) to complete the final solution / solution summary to review with the customer
    • Document the proposed solution by creating a solution summary that can be attached to our CRM application or document management system. The summary should include physical and logical configuration details sufficient to implement the solution, such as cabling, rack layout, power, etc
    • Ensure that final line item configuration of the hardware and software needed to create the technical solution are completed. When necessary, have these peer reviewed by relevant SME's
    • Assist in the writing of proposals and statements of work to bid on customer projects
    • Work with sales reps to develop territory and account plans to be communicated to management
    • Learn how to sell, configure, and implement products as required or as directed by management
    • Maintain sales and technical certifications in the various vendor/partner product sets that are utilized in customer solutions. Sales and technical certifications associated with customer solutions should be driven by the systems engineer. Additional certifications will often be required by management
    • Develop a subject matter specialty as agreed upon by management
    • Install and implement hardware and software solutions as needed
    • Assist in the resolution of issues encountered during the implementation of solutions if required
    • Maintain relationship with customer technology decision makers
    • Partner with vendor systems engineers to keep abreast of new products and new opportunities
    • Be responsive to customers, colleagues, partners and management
    • Take on an active role in training other system engineers

    Qualifications / Education


    • Advanced knowledge of multiple areas of IT: virtualization, compute, networking, storage and infrastructure operations.
    • Broad knowledge of enterprise applications such as SAP, Oracle, Great Plains, and operating systems such as Linux, Windows Server.
    • Deep knowledge of how customers align IT strategy with business objectives and set technical criteria in product evaluations
    • Broad knowledge of software development methodologies and challenges
    • Broad knowledge of hypervisors such as vSphere, Hyper-V, KVM
    • Familiarity with configuration management and orchestration tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible or Salt
    • Familiarity with public cloud infrastructure IaaS and PaaS
    • Scripting experience with programming languages like Python, Perl, PowerShell, or Ruby desirable
    • Microsoft Office tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Visio or equivalents
    • 10+ years of experience in Information Technology
    • 3+ years of experience in presales or sales support role
    • A demonstrated history of learning new technologies and adapting them to solve complex problems
    • BA/BS in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math or equivalent training outside of a formal degree program a plus
