Responsibilities

  • Ensure the accurate preparation and timely submission of all foreign, federal, state and local tax returns through coordinated efforts with outside tax preparers
  • Initiate research, interpretation, & advisement of changing tax legislation and related income tax regulations, rules and case law, identifying areas of opportunity and tax minimization
  • Lead the organization’s Tax Planning and Strategy
  • Develop and deploy sales, use, and property tax governance and compliance
  • Enhance existing tax strategy through new approaches, planning and collaboration with senior leaders
  • Advise senior management on all tax-related developments impacting the company and advises on tax implications of proposed business transactions and opportunities
  • Lead in the analysis and resolution of all complex tax issues impacting the company’s business
  • Retain and supervise outside tax counsel, other advisors, and/or systems procurement required to effectively conduct research
  • Manage, implement, and maintain tax reporting, compliance, and accounting policies
  • Simplify systems and processes to efficiently compile information for reporting, compliance and audits
  • Approve tax and tax-related expenditures within established authorization limits; signing tax returns
  • Administrate tax audits and negotiations with taxing authorities
  • Direct other tax professionals, whether employees or contractors/consultants in all aspects of the company’s income tax processes
  • Prepare financial statement disclosures related to income taxes
  • Participate in special projects of a tax or accounting nature as assigned by the company’s Chief Financial Officer or other members of senior management

 

 

 

Qualifications / Education

  • 8+ years of experience in a CPA firm, corporate tax department or governmental agency such as the IRS
  • BS/BA in Accounting/Economics; CPA or Masters in Taxation preferred
  • In-depth experience reviewing and preparing foreign, federal, state and local tax returns
  • Expertise with the federal and state income taxation of US Corporations
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of GAAP accounting for income taxes (ASC740)
  • Familiarity with the US taxation of financial institutions and leasing companies (expertise preferred)
  • Familiarity with the use of tax-related software such as CCH, CorpTax, and Superforms
  • Administering tax audits, negotiations related thereto and litigation of tax issues
  • Researching complex foreign, federal, state and local tax issues and determining their impact on the taxpayer
  • Tax-related financial accounting rules such as FAS 109
  • Understanding of financial concepts related to cash flows and the time value of money
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, MS PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with use of tax software used to prepare tax returns and perform research
  • Previous supervision of professionals within a corporate tax department
